- Using a metal scraper or durable metal spatula, scrape the entire surface clean of large debris, residual grease, and food remnants.
- Rinse the surface clean with water.
- If the rust has disappeared, proceed to dry thoroughly and repeat the seasoning process.
If rust is still present, continue with the following instructions:
- Pour white vinegar on the surface and sprinkle coarse salt over the cooktop.
- Let solution sit for 5 minutes.
- Scrub the entire surface (top, sides, corners, edges) with a green scouring pad until all signs of red rust are removed. This may require some intermittent rinsing with clean water to determine if the rust has been removed.
- Clear the surface of debris and rinse with clean water until all red rust is washed away.
- Dry thoroughly and repeat the seasoning process to protect the cook surface.
